This may be considered Coney Island’s “off season,” but that doesn’t mean we’ve just been sitting around out here with nothing to do. We’ve actually been pretty busy. On the heels of NYC Beer Week, before the last keg of Infectious Smile was kicked, we received word that we had won not one, but TWO awards as part of the 6th Annual New York International Beer Competition. Check it ouuuut:

New York Honey Stout

This beer has a place in our heart. It was the first beer Eric ever brewed on our new brewing system on Surf Ave and recently became our 2017 spring seasonal. Now we can tout that it’s award winning, taking home a SILVER medal in the Hybrid/Mixed Beer Styles category.

And just in case you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a robust, sweet stout that clocks in at 8% ABV. It has roasted chocolate notes that are balanced by caramel malt flavor and the subtle sweetness of honey from Upstate New York. You can find it in 6-packs and on draft where Coney Island beer is sold.

Hot Toddy Ale

The second winning beer was from the Sideshow Series, our Hot Toddy Ale, which took home a BRONZE in the British Ales category.

Inspired by the classic winter cocktail, Eric fermented the strong ale with honey, cinnamon and lemons and aged it on whiskey barrel staves. In the winter, we’ve poured it warm on Hot Toddy Saturdays at the brewery and there may still be a few kegs available throughout the city. And if you really just want to learn more about Hot Toddy, check out our Q&A with Eric on the blog.

Infectious Smile

And that Infectious Smile beer that we were talking about in the beginning? That’s our single malt and single hop beer that Eric concocted specially for NYC Beer Week. It’s a filtered, kettle-soured ale, brewed with New York State malt and hops, and aged on oak barrel staves. And guess what? It was voted as the NYC Beer Week fan favorite SMaSH beer!

Please join us in congratulating our head brewer, Eric as well as the brewing team, on brewing up some delicious beers! And make sure to check out the full list of New York International Beer Competition winners and congratulate them as well.
